January 350 Blocks Report

Posted on January 31, 2014 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Well, that went fast, didn’t it?

I don’t know about you, but I’m off to a better start than last year.

I got more than 20 blocks finished! This will help in case I run into a dry spell later on in the year . . .

I made 14 more of these tiny HSTs. These will finish at 1 1/2″. Some of them are bigger. I have all sizes! I’m ready to start setting some of them together with some sort of plan, but I have no time to devote to it right now, so these have simply joined the rest in the drawer for now.HSTs

I made 21 blocks for a quilt I’ll show you next week (a new pattern I have coming out), and I made 1 block for a little wall quilt I’ll show you tomorrow (another new pattern).

I made 1 section of my daughter’s t-shirt quilt, and 3 blocks as a tester for QuiltMaker.

I made this Card Tricks block for our monthly guild block challenge:cardtrix

And I made 17 more blocks like this one for my Scrap Jar Stars quilt:ScrapJar1

I’m done with all the blocks for this quilt now, so it’s time to set it together, and that won’t count for anything in the block project, but it will be nice to have it done — it’s a quilt I’m going to love!

So my total for the month is 58 — that even surprises ME! Woohoo!

How did you all do? We have 50 participants in the Project so far this year. It’s not too late to join in — you can jump in any time. If you’re already in, or if you’re just joining up, it’s time to let me know your monthly totals, so leave me a comment or contact me and I’ll get you updated on the Project page. I’ll announce the January prize winner sometime next week, so be sure to report in within the next few days so you’ll be eligible for the drawing. And if you have a post of your own about it, please leave us the link to it so we can come visit and see pictures of what you got done!

Our goal for February is 30 blocks, for a yearly total of 50 so far. Some of you have already made over 100 blocks this year — incredible!

I got my 30 done but am remaking one since it didn’t turn out quite right. The first nine were a baby blanket for my daughter’s friend. The rest are for a quilt for my son and daughter-in-law. I am using civil war repro and similar fabrics and using patterns from Barbara Brackkman’s Civil War Sampler. Each block will be different.

  2. Julie in Tucson. AZ says:

I’m totally behind for the month. None made. 🙁
Maybe next month will be better!

  3. Kathy says:

I have done 7 lap quilts for the Dempsey Cancer of which I am delivering next week. The total of the number of squares is 124. I am now doing a mystery quilt along with my quilt guild. But we only get directions every other week. So that one will take some time. And it does contain MANY blocks. However I am going through some of my many books to decide which one I want to do next.

Hi All: I did pretty good for a very busy month: 27. I made 6 triangle blocks for a project I finished and sent to my daughter; 3 more blocks for my Quilt of Valor project, one “word” block for 15 Minutes of Play blog challenge (I actually made the mini quilt, quilted, bound and labeled it!); and 17 blocks for Celtic Solstice. I made 9 Birthday Girl blocks and 8 flight blocks.

  26. Cathy says:

Sorry I’m late on posting my block count for January. I actually did 66, I couldn’t believe it when I counted them. But I did have a lot of HST that I counted. http://ucanquilt2.blogspot.com/p/the-350-blocks-project-2014.html

  27. Cathy says:

Oops I was just looking through my blog again and realized that I missed 3 blocks that I did for Leah Day’s Building Block Quilt Along.
So that is a total of 69 blocks for January almost 70…

  28. Cassandra says:

I completed a big fat nothing last month. 🙁 I finished several house organization projects. I made significant progress on a knitting project. But no quilting. I WANTED to quilt last week but could never find a good time to ask my husband to let me use our kitchen table. He works from home and worked a ton of hours last week. Unfortunately, the only space we have for him to work is on our kitchen table. This week for sure! 🙂

  29. Nanette S. says:

I have completed 47 as of Friday 1/31. Started some more on Saturday – yipee!! Loving this counting. Good Luck everyone!

  30. Terri Gross says:

Only 4 for me. Feb. will be fun.

  31. Shar says:

You can put me down for 210 block. I did 70 block for my batik quilt. 75 half square triangles. 70 squares for my valentine quilt. I’m ready to put some quilts together this month.

  32. Heather says:

Almost forgot to add my starting numbers for January. I did 2 blocks and 20 fabric postcards for a total of 22. http://www.heatherpearson.com/2014/02/needlework-tuesday-really-cute-tea-cosy.html

  33. Susan B. says:

I reported 20 blocks for Jan. and now will add 124 more for Feb. (a 144 block 9 patch) with 1 inch sashings and just finished 28 blocks for a small sample using the twister template. Everyone seems to be doing well. Hope we can all keep it up.
