I’m back today to show you another quilt I quilted while I was living in Nebraska last year. I got a lot of quilting done in Nebraska! And evidently didn’t blog about any of it at the time.
This one was for Kathy. I’ve quilted several quilts for Kathy, most of them with embroidered blocks that her mother embroidered, and then Kathy set into quilts. Next time, I’ll get some shots of the embroidery — that woman can stitch so perfectly — and she’s in her late 80s! I hope I’m still stitching like that at that age!
This particular Lone Star quilt was made by Kathy and her sister, to give as a gift to their mother last Christmas. They made it in their mother’s favorite colors. It was beautiful.
Kathy had specific ideas on how she wanted it quilted, so that took part of the guesswork out of it for me. I did undulating feathers with a beaded spine in the large outer border:
Some straight lines and squiggles in the busy print border, since it wouldn’t show much. And connected swirls in the narrow border:
I did concave curves in the diamonds of the star.
And Kathy wanted flower wreaths in the large plain corners. Yes, folks, I drew this pattern myself! Shocked even me, I tell you . . .
I just filled in the background with tiny stippling to make the flower wreath stand out.
She wanted straight lines in the large setting triangles.
Here’s some shots of the back side:
My pictures did not turn out very well.
Our bedroom in Nebraska was painted orange! It sort of cast a color on anything I tried to photograph in there, but it being winter, I couldn’t take them outside, so this is what I have . . . I’m a horrible photographer.
The quilt measures 90″ x 90″. I also quilted two matching pillow sham tops to go with the quilts. Kathy said her mother loves it. I think she should! They did a fantastic job on the piecing. The quilt laid so straight and flat, it made my part really easy.
Kathy called a few days ago, and has two more embroidered quilts to get quilted. I’ll ask her if I can show you the embroidery her mother does — it’s mind-boggling!
That is just plain beautiful !!!!!
That is a beautiful quilt and I love the quilting you did on it! I am sure their mother was thrilled.
What an impressive quilt–love the wreaths you added!
You got the quilting visible, though, and that’s hard to do! Beautifully done.
Gorgeous quilt!!
