My friend, René, over at René Creates, has released her first pattern — woohoo!
And she’s been having a Blog Hop to celebrate. And today is my turn to show you my Peace Quilt.
When René asked for testers, I willingly volunteered. I had the perfect bunch of fabric scraps I wanted to use! And to go with them, I chose an orange solid for my background. Orange is My Cowboy’s favorite color, and although red is my favorite color, I’ve been crushing on orange quite a bit lately. (Is that called an Orange Crush?)
This quilt was very fast and easy to put together, and René’s instructions are excellently written. I cut it out one evening, and had it put together the next day.
The pattern includes instructions for 3 different sizes of the quilt. I wanted to do the largest size, but knew I didn’t have time to make all the pinwheels (plus I wanted to use my chosen scraps in bigger chunks), so I made the middle-sized version, and just added a border all around.
Another thing I like about this pattern is all the negative space to play with quilting. I went a little wild with my quilting, but I’ve been wanting to put a quilt on the frame and just be free to play around and not worry about messing up. I can’t do that with a customer quilt, so the Peace quilt worked quite nicely for that!
I’m the last of the testers to show you my Peace Quilt, but all the others still have their give-aways going on, so be sure and visit them to see their versions of the quilt, and enter at all of them for a chance to win a PDF copy of the pattern for yourself.
You can also comment here for a chance to win a PDF copy of the pattern. Just leave me a comment below, and while you’re at it, tell me what you think I oughta bind my quilt with. I have it quilted, but I can’t decide on a binding! Should I do the plain orange, should I use the leftover scraps and go scrappy, or should I use a stripe or a different solid color? What would you do? I’ll draw for a give-away winner on Monday, February 4.
Here’s the list of the other testers’ give-aways:
Katie at KT Quilts
Michele at Nostalgic Cafe
Cindy at Live a Colorful Life
Michelle at Frustrated Quilter
Stephanie at Peas in a Pod
Terri at Terri’s Notebook
Doris at Made by a Brunnette
Mary at Mary on Lake Pulaski
And tomorrow, Friday, February 1, be sure to visit René herself at René Creates for a give away as well.
And I’ll leave you with some more shots of the wild quilting I did. I may . . .
. . . have gone . . .
. . . a little . . .
. . . overboard. But I really wanted to try a bunch of stuff I’m too scared to try on a customer’s quilt.
Even the back is wild!
I used 3 different fabrics and pieced the backing, just to use up some scraps.
It really shows up on the back side!
All my little bobbles show –eeek!
But you can see that I did different designs (mostly geometric) in the background area, and swirls all through the peace sign patches.
Thanks for visiting! Don’t forget to comment for a chance to win a PDF copy of the pattern, and visit all the other testers and enter their give-aways, too. And be sure and check with René tomorrow for her wrap-up and give-away.
Your quilting is gorgeous! I don’t think you should hesitate to try it on customer quilts. They will be thrilled. I think you should bind the quilt with a red and white stripe. It will be a bit wild but hey – you did make an orange quilt 🙂 Very lovely btw.
Very unique. I think the Wien quilters will love it.
I’m not entering the giveaway, but just wanted to say how in awe I am of the quilting you did on this. Absolutely stunning and a perfect compliment to Rene’s pattern.
It is amazing how each of you made the quilt. Your orange background is fun and wow….I would love to see the quilt in person and all the fun quilting you did. I think a binding with a strip would be fun.
skinny stripes, bias so the stripes are on the diagonal.
I so love this quilt, brings back memories for me i guess with the peace sign. You did an awesome job on the quilting, you can be proud! I would probably go for the orange in binding it as to not distract from the peace sign.
Looks like we are both crushing on orange 😉 I love your peace quilt…beautiful job on the quilting!!!
Why not bind it with black it will make the orange show up even more
wonderful quilting. And bobbles don’t count.

Great quilting. Thanks for sharing.
I love this quilt. How cool that your cowboy loves orange. For a while while my son was little his favorite colors were orange and purple. I loved shopping for him then. The quilting is great! I am having a thing about striped binding right now, so that is what I’d do . . maybe a navy and white stripe on the straight or bias?
Love the bright orange! I would go scrappy with the binding.
Shelly, don’t count me in the running for the pattern but your quilting is AMAZING!!!!! Wow! It’s just beautiful. And orange has been at the top of my favorite-color list for quite a while for Cowboy definitely knows what he’s doing!
Holy cow Batman!! Your quilting is WoW! Gorgeous! Bea-u-ti-ful!! I couldn’t zoom my picture big enough to see around the corner, hehe. What a fun quilt! I’ve also developed an orange crush lately. Your quilt turned out amazing! As far as the binding I think I’d see what the scrappy binding would look like, I think it would frame everything nicely. Of course the orange that matches would also work. Can’t wait to see what you decide. Thanks for sharing, awesome job!
Thank you and Rene for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

Wow your quilting is fabulous!
LOVE this quilt! I would go scrappy, for sure, and I rarely do!
I love the orange background ( I’m crushing on orange too) and your quilting is amazing.
Oh, wow, Shelly! I just love it! It’s amazing! I love the orange, especially with the scraps you used. And your quilting is out of this world! How fun for you to play with those designs. And bobbles? I don’t see any! Just lovely!
I feel so lucky, because I’ve seen it in person and the quilting just takes your breath away!! Photos don’t do it justice… and as for bobbles…there aren’t any!!
This is a BEAUTIFUL quilt, Shelly. Thanks for sharing it.
